Why change a JPG into a PNG?

PNG is lossless, so it's the better choice if you'll keep editing an image, or if a tool or form insists on PNG.

Does the PNG get a transparent background?

No. JPGs have no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. You'd need an image editor to remove it afterwards.

Does JPG to PNG improve the picture?

It can't reverse compression already in the JPG, but from here on no further quality is lost.

Do my files get uploaded anywhere?

Never. The work is done by JavaScript running in your own browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server or kept anywhere, which makes it safe for personal photos and sensitive data – and it carries on working even on a patchy connection.

How many images can I convert, and how big can they be?
