Copying text out of an image
Text is recognised with Tesseract, a well-established open-source OCR engine compiled to run inside your browser. Drop a screenshot, a photo of a document, a receipt or a scan – or just paste an image with Ctrl+V or ⌘V – and the text appears in an editable box, ready to correct, copy or save as a .txt file. There are 20 languages to pick from, including Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and Hindi. The engine and language data download once and are cached by your browser, after which recognition starts almost immediately. Images are processed entirely on your device and never uploaded, so it's safe for IDs, invoices, private messages and confidential paperwork. It's free, handles batches and needs no account.
- 1
Choose the language of the text, then drop images onto the box above or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V / ⌘V.
- 2
Give it a moment to read the text – the first run downloads the OCR engine, which is then cached.
- 3
Fix anything that was misread, then copy the text or download it as a .txt file.

Questions & answers
How accurate is the text recognition?
Clear, high-contrast text such as screenshots and scanned documents usually comes out almost perfect. Blurry photos, handwriting and fancy fonts are harder, so check the result and fix anything misread.
Do my images get uploaded for OCR?
No. The OCR engine runs in your browser, so images stay on your device. Only the engine and language data are downloaded – once, the first time you use a language.
