Questions & answers

What's the point of turning PNG into JPG?

PNG is lossless, which makes photos and screenshots huge. A JPG is often 5–10× smaller while looking the same, so it's better for email, uploads and sites with size limits.

Do I lose transparency?

Yes – JPG has no transparency, so those areas become white. To keep a transparent background with a smaller file, use PNG to WebP instead.

When is PNG the better choice?

Stick with PNG for logos, icons, line drawings and text-heavy graphics with crisp edges, or anything that needs transparency. JPG suits photos and colourful screenshots.

Do my files get uploaded anywhere?

Never. The work is done by JavaScript running in your own browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server or kept anywhere, which makes it safe for personal photos and sensitive data – and it carries on working even on a patchy connection.

How many images can I convert, and how big can they be?

There's no cap on either. Convert as many as you want, as often as you want. Only your device's memory limits really huge batches, so if you have hundreds of high-resolution photos, do them in a few rounds.
