What changes going from OGG to MP3
- Your MP3 is encoded at 192 kbps – for most listening you can't tell it from the original, and it takes about 1.4 MB per minute.
OGG and MP3 in brief
- OGG (normally Ogg Vorbis) is an open audio format found in games, Linux apps and some recorders. Older iPhones, lots of car stereos and editing apps can't play it.
- MP3 is the audio format that plays on every phone, car stereo, speaker, editor and website. It's lossy, which keeps files small.
iPhone tips
- Older iOS versions can't decode OGG, Opus or WebM audio. If the file won't open, update iOS or convert it on a computer instead.
- You don't need anything from the App Store – the tool works inside Safari and the file stays on your iPhone.
- Decoding uses your browser's own audio support. If one browser can't open the file, try Chrome or Firefox.

Questions & answers
Will OGG to MP3 make it sound worse?
Very slightly, since MP3 is lossy, but at 192 kbps the difference is extremely hard to hear.
Can I trim the audio while I'm at it?
Yes. Drag the start and end handles on the waveform, play it back, and add a fade in or fade out if you like.
Do my recordings get sent anywhere?
No. Your browser does the conversion with your device's own processor, so your recordings stay with you. Once the page has loaded you could even switch off your internet connection.
Where do I find the converted file on my iPhone?
Tap Download. Safari puts the file in Files › Downloads – tap the download arrow in the address bar to open or share it.
