The steps: Strip GPS & EXIF Data from PNG Photos on iPhone

  1. 1

Open this page in Safari (or Chrome) on your iPhone or iPad.

  2. 2

Tap the box above, then choose Photo Library to pick from Photos, or Choose File to browse the Files app (iCloud Drive, On My iPhone, Downloads).

  3. 3

Every photo lists the metadata it contains – location, date, device – and a clean copy is created immediately.

  4. 4

Tap Download. Safari puts the file in Files › Downloads (the download arrow in the address bar takes you there). To get an image into Photos, open it in Files, tap Share, then Save Image.

What's stripped out

  • GPS coordinates, date and time, phone or camera make and model, lens and exposure settings, editing software and any embedded preview thumbnail.
  • JPG, PNG and WebP files are cleaned without touching the picture itself, so they look identical. HEIC photos come back as a clean, high-quality JPG.

iPhone tips

  • When you share from Photos you can tap Options at the top of the share sheet and switch off Location – but the rest of the EXIF data stays, and it only covers that one share.
  • Most social networks remove metadata when you post, but email, AirDrop, cloud links and many messaging apps pass along the original file with everything intact.

Questions & answers

Does stripping EXIF data hurt the quality?

No. Only the hidden details go; the PNG picture data is left alone.

Can I clean a batch of photos?

Yes. Add as many as you like and save them all in a single ZIP.

Do my photos get sent anywhere?

No. Your browser does the conversion with your device's own processor, so your photos stay with you. Once the page has loaded you could even switch off your internet connection.

Where do I find the converted file on my iPhone?

Tap Download. Safari puts the file in Files › Downloads (the download arrow in the address bar takes you there). To get an image into Photos, open it in Files, tap Share, then Save Image.
