What changes going from AAC to WAV
- Because WAV is uncompressed, the file will be far larger than the AAC (roughly 10 MB per minute of stereo), and that's expected.
- A WAV can't add detail the AAC never had, but editors and DAWs open it without any decoding trouble.
AAC and WAV in brief
- AAC is lossy audio that sounds better than MP3 at the same file size, but bare .aac files aren't accepted by every player, editor or site.
- WAV is raw, uncompressed audio: perfect quality, but around 10 MB for every minute of stereo. Editors, DAWs and some upload forms want WAV.
iPhone tips
- You don't need anything from the App Store – the tool works inside Safari and the file stays on your iPhone.
- Decoding uses your browser's own audio support. If one browser can't open the file, try Chrome or Firefox.
