The steps: Turn HEIC into a PDF on Mac

  1. 1

Open this page in Safari, Chrome or Firefox on your Mac.

  2. 2

Drag the file out of Finder onto the box above, or click the box to choose it.

  3. 3

Every image gets its own page. Use the up and down arrows to set the page order.

  4. 4

Click Download. You'll find the file in your Downloads folder (in Finder or on the Dock).

How your PDF comes out

  • Each image sits on its own page at full resolution, with no cropping or blurring.
  • HEIC photos from an iPhone go straight in – you don't have to make them JPGs first.
  • Want to rearrange or remove pages from a PDF you already have? The Reorder PDF Pages tool does that.

HEIC and PDF in brief

  • HEIC is the photo format Apple uses by default on iPhone and iPad. It packs a picture into about half the space a JPG would need, yet plenty of Windows computers, web forms, websites and older apps refuse to open it.
  • A PDF looks the same on every screen and printer, which is why schools, landlords, print shops and application forms ask for documents in this format.

Mac tips

  • Preview can also turn images into a PDF (select them, open in Preview, File › Print › Save as PDF), though getting the page order and sizes right takes some effort.
  • It runs the same on Apple silicon and Intel Macs, with nothing to get from the App Store.

Questions & answers

Can one PDF hold lots of HEIC images?

Yes. Add as many as you like – each becomes a page in the order shown, and the arrows let you rearrange them before downloading.

Are there limits on pages or file size?

There's no fixed limit. Big batches just take longer, because your own device builds the PDF.

Do my images get sent anywhere?

No. Your browser does the conversion with your device's own processor, so your images stay with you. Once the page has loaded you could even switch off your internet connection.

Where do I find the converted file on my Mac?

Click Download. You'll find the file in your Downloads folder (in Finder or on the Dock).
